Child Protection Policy
Summary
The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of the Parish Church Of St. Andrew's, Medstead (the Church) takes seriously its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults entrusted to the Church's care or who use its services or participate in any of its groups.
The PCC are committed to:
- Listening to, valuing and relating effectively with children.
- Ensuring the protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults whilst participating in the Church's activities.
- Encouraging and supporting parents and carers.
- Ensuring children's and youth workers, ministry teams and pastoral assistants are given appropriate support and training.
- Ensuring there is a robust system for dealing with concerns about possible abuse.
The Child Protection Policy (the Policy) outlines the procedures and standards expected by the Church and is subject to periodic review by the PCC. The Policy is consistent with the Diocese Of Winchester's Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures. The PCC are also supported by the Diocese Of Winchester's Director for Social Responsibility and Bishop's Child Protection Adviser.
The PCC have adopted the Policy, summarised in this document, and have set out agreed guidelines relating to the following areas:
- Appointing children's and youth workers, ministry teams and pastoral assistants.
- Supervision of activities involving children.
- Responding to allegations of abuse, including those made against members of the Church.
- Helping victims of abuse.
- Working with offenders.
- Roles within the Church requiring Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure.
Each person appointed by the Church to work with children, young people or vulnerable adults will receive a copy of the Policy. This summary of the Policy will be displayed in one or more prominent place(s) to facilitate awareness of the Policy's existence. A copy of the Policy can be inspected upon request to one of the contacts listed below.
The Policy has been approved by the Rector and has been adopted by the PCC. The PCC has also appointed a Child Protection Co-ordinator who reports to the PCC.
